Mallorca Photography Guide

Pine Walk Porto De Pollenca

I have been coming to Mallorca since 2000 to photograph the north of the island around Alcudia; I have always rent an apartment in either Porto Alcudia Alcudia or Porto Pollenca in the north of the Island. Both Ports Alcudia back onto the beautiful Playa de Muro beach.

I can recall back in 2004 when the Alcudia had a complete power failure the restaurant cooked our dinner by candlelight; this included good fish and pasta meals

I have taken some outstanding landscape and travel photographs on the north of Mallorca which included such locations as old Soller Town, Port de Soller, Port de Pollença, old Pollença town, Cala Sant Vicenç, Port d'Alcúdia, Ca’n Picafort and old Alcudia Town with its town wall dating back to the fourteenth century

If you arrived in Port de Soller in 2002, you find all of the cafes and restaurants closed or only serving drinks at it was siesta time, and they would not open again until the evening, but since the recession, this has all changed and siesta time seems to be getting phased out.

The Port d'Alcúdia although it has a marina and ferry terminal, and a small shopping centre, on the main road to Ca’n Picafort is where the commercial district with its shops, hotels, supermarkets, cafes, tourist shops, this about 1.4km from the port.

On the north of Mallorca in Old Soller town is the Orange Express which is built in 1911 and goes through the Tramuntana mountains to Palma, the Orange express runs from Soller railway station, there also a tram to Port De Soller also of 1911, it seems every time I visit Majorca I end up photographing this remarkable train and tram.

In the Tramuntana Mountains there some outstanding landscapes to photograph and places to visit like the scenic villages of Deiá, Valldemossa and Banyalbufar and on the coast a scenic drive to Cap de Formentor. Polish composer Frederick Chopin and the French writer George Sands lived in Valldemossa 1838.

In Tramuntana Mountains, you will find the Torrent de Pareis when it rains in the winter this becomes a torrent of raging water, and it has carved out a gorge, which is 5km long.

I will always keep returning the Mallorca as every visit I find new scenery and places to visit and photograph; I have been trying to capture the all of the seascapes and landscape in all Mallorca, but that will have to wait for another visit
